Manage Wheel Group Users

The Wheel Group is a user group that can gain access to root on your server by using the su command (create a shell with the entered user id). You can add and remove users from that group as required.

Steps
  1. To access the Manage Wheel Group Users feature, click on Security, on the main screen of your WebHost Manager interface.
  2. Then click on Manage Wheel Group Users.

Viewing Current Users In The Wheel Group

When the page loads, you will see a section called "Users Currently in the wheel group." This section displays all the users that are currently in the wheel group for your server.

Add User To Wheel Group

The second section listed, "Add a user to the wheel group," allows you to add all users currently created on your server to the wheel group. Read the instructions below to learn how to add a user to the wheel group on your server.

Steps
  1. Select the user you want to add to your wheel group by clicking on the username in the list. If you want to select multiple users, hold down the Ctrl key and left-click on the users you want to add in the list.
  2. Once you have made your selection, click on the Add to Group button.
  3. You should see a statement similar to the following:
    • "Added user USERNAME to the wheel group."
  1. Go back to the Manage Wheel Group Users page. You should now see the user(s) you selected in Step 1 above added to the "Users Currently in the wheel group" list.

 

Remove User From Wheel Group

The Wheel Group is a user group that can gain access to root on your server by using the su command (create a shell with the entered user id). You can add and remove users from that group as required.

The third section listed, "Remove a user from the wheel group," shows a list of users that have been added to the wheel group on your server. Read the instructions below to learn how to remove a user to the wheel group on your server.

Steps
  1. Each user listed has been created as a button. You will need to remove one user at a time by clicking on the button associated with the username you want to delete.
  2. Once you click on the button, you should see a statement similar to the following:
    • "Removed user USERNAME" to the wheel group.
  1. Go back to the Manage Wheel Group Users page. The user you removed should now be removed from "Users Currently in the wheel group" list.
